EP+Co Internship Reflection
By: Kate DeStefano
My Internship experience at EP+Co was life-changing for me. It opened my eyes to the world of marketing and advertising and gave me a clear idea of what careers I am interested in for the future. Prior to the internship, I couldn't decide between Graphic Design, Law, Marketing, and Interior Design, or something related to history. After this internship, I now know that the career that encompasses all of my interests is marketing. During the experience, I got to write a marketing brief for a fake customer, work with a strategist to get more information on my products audience, work with a creative team to design my very own marketing deck, and present all of my work to the people in the office on the final day. All of this work did not feel like work. It was so fun and interesting. The people I met and worked with were so helpful and told me not only about their jobs but about what they did in college to get to this career. This helped me organize my ideas and decide on related majors and minors. My mentor was an amazing help to me throughout the whole internship. His guidance and intelligence on the specifics of this line of work helped me decide that marketing is a good option for me in the future. He encouraged me to look up “interview” type questions to ask each new person I met to get a better understanding of how they got to this job. I learned that psychology is a great minor for people in marketing and advertising because you need to understand the way people think in order to reach them. In senior year I am taking AP psychology so I am hoping I will get a better understanding of the way people's brains work. I also learned that having more skills under your belt can help you get the upper hand with any job. For example, I had a very good grasp of how to use google slides. This helped me to be able to create my deck(slideshow) faster and without outside help. I also had a good grasp of how to research. This skill impressed my superiors and helped me to create a brief with ease. CCES has definitely taught me how to be successful and given me the skills I need to obtain a job that will challenge me and help me grow as a person. With the things I have already learned at Christ Church I felt confident and prepared. This experience was so beneficial to me. It helped me finalize my decisions on what I would like to focus on for college and my future career. I hope everyone takes the opportunity to do this internship program because the experience you receive can make the whole college process a lot easier. Overall this opportunity was life-changing for me. It helped me narrow down what I wanted to study in college and the career I want to pursue in the future. I am so happy I got to meet all the amazing people at EP+Co and I hope I can work with them again sometime in the future. I am so thankful I got this experience and I can't wait to see where it leads me.
